Mistral Centerboard

Setting up a Mistral One-Design Centerboard

For this job you will need the following:

TOOLS
CONSUMABLES

1x Hacksaw
1x Tape measure
1x Drill
1x 3/16 drill bit
Class Rules

1x Bolt (5/8)
1x Super Strength Arildite
1x Role of 15mm Masking tape
1x Silicone Sealant
1x Super glue
1x Teflon cutting board

Your centerboard has some constraints as to how fare forward from the back of the board that the tip may reach. The class rule at this time states that the tip of the centerboard may not reach further than 142cm from the very back of the board.

It also states that you must put a stopper in the top of the centerboard to top the centerboard from going any further than 142cm.

Please do not set up your centerboard to stop at 142cm but to stop at 141cm-141.5cm max.

The rules also state that you should have the rubber stopper that is in the centerboard cassette glued in with super glue. I suggest you do this now.

Step one - the cassette

Use your super glue to glue the rubber stopper from the front of the centerboard cassette to the cassette box.
Place your cassette box back into the board and replace the screws after you have covered them in silicone sealant.

Step two - Pin Placement?

The best way to find out where you have to put the pin is to put the centerboard into the board and put the centerboard tip is in a position where it is 141cm from the stern.

When deciding where to place the pin in your centerboard you should mark some boundaries so that the centerboard can retracted properly. The pin should be hard and not able to bend. Many people use Teflon plastic that mum has as a chopping board in the kitchen. A solid bolt to go through the centerboard and a nut to suit 5/8in. Always when making any alterations on mistral equipment, check the latest class rules. These rules are found on www.imco.org.
